There is no pay, but starring and supporting roles will receive a stipend. Meals copy, and credit will be provided for all roles.
Logline:
After having her own problems with being multiracial as a child, Elena Holt finds herself fighting to let the cries of her students and their families be heard.
Synopsis:
As she reflects on her own past Elena Holt is motivated to help a particular group of students and their families. While in court she finds herself defending an idea that seems too far fetched for most. She pleads with the judge and an attorney to understand the importance of adding a multiracial box on standard school applications, but falls short of a victory.
CAST BREAKDOWN:
STARRING:
ELENA HOLT (younger) - 5-7yrs old. Biracial/multiethnic, olive toned, curly haired, fun loving girl. Actress must have an emotional range.
ELENA HOLT (older) – mid-late 20s. Biracial/multiethnic, olive toned woman. She is a school counselor struggling to make change at her school.
SCOTT HOLT- 25-40yr. White male. He relocated his family from New York to Texas because of his work. He has worked in a steel factory/warehouse most of his life and it shows, but he loves his family and will do what it takes to support them. (1980s time period)
ALIZA HOLT – 25-35yrs. African-American female. Striking Afro-Cuban woman with dark skin. Aliza is pregnant with her second child. She is a Labor & Delivery nurse who loves her family dearly, but is still finding the adjustment to being in Texas difficult. (1980s time period)
SUPPORTING:
MRS. YOUNG- 50+. She is a southern pride white teacher, with a Texas twang. She is very good at what she does and genuinely enjoys teaching her students. (1980s time period)
MR. PIERCE- 19-21old yrs. White male. He is Mrs. Young’s tenacious teaching intern, graduating from school within the year. He is very friendly and enjoys helping Mrs. Young. (1980s time period)
RODOLFO- early 20s. Multiracial/Latin male. Olive skin tone. Coffee stand owner. Layed back nice guy who loves what he does.
JUDGE FRANCIS- 50+ open ethnicity. He is a wise man, but very frank and straight to the point. ( We will consider a woman for the role.)
NATE ROBINS- 35-50. White male. He is an attorney representing a school district in a small claims suit. He is pompous, arrogant, rude, and he loves it.
CALEB- 5-7yrs old. Black male. He is energetic and loves learning. (1980s time period)
SHEELA- 5-7yrs old. Black female. She is extremely smart and outgoing, but sometimes knows too much for a child her age. (1980s time period)
NEIL- 5-7yrs old. White male. He is shy, curious, and embarrassed about still wetting himself. (1980s time period)
